Steps to upgrade from a PowerMac 72x0 to a PowerMac 7500


Tools You Need:

Flat plated screw driver

Step 1:

Prepare your computer

Unplug your 7200.

Step 2:

Open your Mac

There are 2 tabs under the front plate.
Push these tabs up while pulling the top towards the front.
Slide it towards the front for about 1 inch.

Step 3:

Your Mac should look like this:

Step 4:

Gain Access

Flip the right-side Ôholding legÕ to the right.
Flip the left-side Ôcard-holding plasticÕ to the left.

Step 5:

Gain Access

Unlock the power supply and disk mounting plate (on two places) and flip it to the right, make sure it rests in the Ôholding leg.Õ

Step 6:

Remove all DIMMs

The Cache DIMM is located next to the CPU (CPU is under the heat sink).
The VRAM DIMM is located to the left of the RAM DIMMs (there is only one VRAM DIMM).
The RAM DIMMs are the 4 rightmost DIMMs.

Disconnect cables

Disconnect all cables on the right side.
Disconnect the loudspeaker and the LED cable on the left-front side.

Step 7:

Remove switch

Remove the push-button extension (watch for the locking tap).

Step 8:

Loosen logic board

Unscrew the screw in the center of the logic board (part of the plastic stand-off).

Step 9:

Remove logic board

Remove the logic board by holding down the two tabs in the front of the logic board while sliding it towards the front.
Lift the logic board with the backside first and store it on an antistatic place.

Step 10:

Install new logic board

Install the 7500 logic board in the reverse way as you have removed the 7200 logic board.

 

Step 11:

Install new logic board

Install the stand-off with the screw back in the center of the logic board.

Step 12:

Reconnect cables

Install all the cables on the right side.

Step 13:

Reinstall switch

Install the push-button extension on the left front side.

Step 14:

Reinstall loud speaker

Install the loudspeaker and LED cables on the left front side.

Step 15:

Install the DIMMs

The Level-2 Cache DIMM is marked by the word ÔCACHEÕ written on the logic board.
The VRAM DIMMs are marked with ÔVRAMÕ, you must install the VRAM DIMMs in pairs of two of the same size.
The RAM DIMMs can be interleaved in pairs of two (must be of the same size).

Step 16:

Install the optional AV-In/Out Module325

Remove the plastic cover from the back.

Step 16a:

Install the optional AV-In/Out Module

Install the card from the inside and fasten it with the two screws.

Step 16b:

Install the optional AV-In/Out Module

Connect the cable into the socket to the right of the three PCI-sockets.

Step 17:

Reinstall power supply

Flip back the power supply and disk mounting plate and lock it in place (watch the black plastic underneath the plate).

Step 18:

Insert CPU card

Install the CPU daughter-card into the CPU-connector below the Audio/Video connector and to the right of the PCI connectors.

 

Step 19:

Close computer

Flip the right-side Ôholding legÕ back to the left.
Flip the left-side Ôcard-holding plasticÕ back to the right.

Step 20:

Close the cover

Reattach the cover.

Step 21:

Reconnect external cables

Connect all the external cables back into place.

Step 22:

Enjoy your increased speed
