	An FPU is ideal for math intensive computations in such applications as spreadsheets or filtering effects in graphic programs. If you use your Macintosh for desktop publishing, design work, spreadsheet analysis or Web page development you will benefit by increased mathematical performance.

Optimize 68030 or 68040 Performance with an FPU: With a MicroMac FPU you speed up mathematical operations on your Macintosh in such tasks as screen redraws, image filtering and special rendering or 3D effects. For example, an FPU would be utilized by Photoshop as it performs a filtering effect that is applied to an image. In a spreadsheet application that benefits from an FPU, number crunching routines and formulas are processed at a faster rate. With the advent of the World Wide Web, graphics are more than ever important in Web page development. Some applications (such as special 3D rendering programs used for graphic design and Web page creation) even require an FPU before they will launch. The only way to work with these programs is to have an FPU installed in your Macintosh.

Replace Your 68LC040: Unlike most 68030 based Macintosh computers which have a separate socket on the logic board for an FPU, 68040 based Macs either come with a 68LC040 (low cost) or 68040 processor. The 68LC040 processor does not have an integrated FPU. In order to take advantage of FPU features, you need a full blown 68040 that integrates CPU and FPU functions. Take advantage of today's software demands and upgrade your 68LC040 to a 68040.

System and Tool Requirements: Macintosh without built in FPU and optional anti-static grounding strap (available at most computer hardware stores).

Installation: Installation consists of opening your Macintosh and gaining access to the logic board. If you have a 68030 based Macintosh, simply install the FPU into the designated FPU socket on the logic board. If you have a 68LC040 based Macintosh, carefully remove the 68LC040 processor from the CPU socket and install the new 68040 processor.
